During my high school years and into my freshman year of college, I embarked on a project focusing on the development of a demonstration inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) fusor. The primary goal of this project was to assess diverse inner grid designs for peak performance, gauging success by the visible spectrum intensity stemming from the grid's geometry, anticipated to enhance fusion reactions. Powered by a 15kV neon sign transformer, the fusor ionizes atmospheric particles within its vacuum-sealed chamber. While its original blueprint called for the use of Deuterium —a hydrogen isotope essential for effective fusion—budgetary constraints necessitated the postponement of this option to ensure both efficient experimentation and safety, especially considering neutron radiation protection.
